Luxury Basecamp Backpacking
Why comfort in the backcountry isn’t cheating.
There are a lot of ways to enjoy the outdoors.
Some people chase miles with ultralight backpacks. Others prefer car camping where everything is just a few steps from the vehicle.
Both approaches have their place.
But Ridge Runner Gear grew out of a different idea.
I call it Luxury Basecamp Backpacking.
And no, it doesn’t mean hauling a couch into the woods.
It means hiking to a great spot, setting up a comfortable camp, and actually enjoying the place you worked to reach.
Why I Moved Away from Camper Camping
For years I camped with a traditional camper.
The problem was that many campgrounds started to feel less like the outdoors and more like a parking lot full of RVs. People would pull in, set up their campers, and spend most of their time inside.
That wasn’t the experience I was looking for.
I wanted to be in the woods, not parked next to them.
At the same time, I didn’t want every trip to turn into an all-day death march either.
My goal was to hike to a spot that was close enough that I didn’t spend all day getting there, but far enough away to truly get out there with friends and enjoy the woods in as much comfort as possible.
Hiking Just Far Enough Away
That is really the heart of Luxury Basecamp Backpacking.
Hike far enough to leave the crowds behind. Far enough that camp feels like camp instead of a parking space with trees nearby. But not so far that the whole trip becomes nothing but effort.
Sometimes the best campsite is only a mile or two from the trailhead. Just far enough that things get quiet and the woods start feeling like the woods again.
Once there, the goal is simple:
- Relax
- Cook
- Fish
- Talk with friends
- Enjoy the woods
Comfort Isn’t the Enemy
Some outdoor philosophies focus on carrying as little as possible.
There’s nothing wrong with that. But the goal of every trip doesn’t have to be proving how uncomfortable you can be with the fewest ounces on your back.
Sometimes the goal is simply to enjoy the experience more.
A comfortable hammock setup, a smart way to organize gear, a simple camp light, or a compact fishing system can completely change how enjoyable camp becomes.
Luxury Basecamp Backpacking is about finding the balance between mobility and comfort.
Gear That Earns Its Place in the Pack
That philosophy is what led to Ridge Runner Gear.
Every piece of gear we design follows a few simple rules:
- Keep it lightweight
- Make it multi-purpose
- Keep it simple and reliable
- Make it earn its place in the pack
The goal is not to carry more gear just for the sake of having gadgets.
The goal is to carry the right gear so camp is more functional, more comfortable, and more enjoyable once you get there.
Why Ridge Runner Gear Exists
Ridge Runner Gear is built for people who want to spend real time outdoors, not just pass through it.
It’s for hikers, hammock campers, anglers, and backwoods problem solvers who want gear that helps build a better camp without loading themselves down with nonsense.
Because sometimes the best part of the trip isn’t the miles.
Sometimes it’s sitting in camp with friends while the woods settle down for the night.
Run the Ridge.
